Born in Scotland - The Recession

As Gordon Brown is fond of saying that the cause of our recession was the sub-prime market in the USA, is it not equally true that the recession was caused by two factors.
1) Scottish Politicians
Gordon Brown
Alistair Darling
2) Scottish Banks
Bank of Scotland
Royal Bank of Scotland
A once proud nation that produced the Empires finest engineers, scientists and soldiers, not too mention Whisky and the Beano.
Now the most prominent exports are failed bankers and failed politicians.
Can you take them back please.

looks like another topic heading for the bin.
Just how many "other than scots politicians" were at the helm" in a recession?
For the record darling isnt strictly scottish.
Oh and you forgot that the halifax was part of bos , the part that did most of the mortgges on its books , and northern rock.
So that leaves rbs , how can one bank cause a recession.Their problem was caused by debt that eminated from usa , bought into by all the banks looking for profit....fact.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
And guess what country Tony Blair was born in?0

It was tongue in cheek, but although Darling was born in London, he was educated entirely in Scotland, and has a seat in Scotland. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it usually is one.
Tony Blair
Gordon Brown
Alastair Darling
Covers the PM & Chancellor over the last 12 years, all educated in Scotland.
Sadly if you look at the HBOS write off's, the majority originate in BOS commercial lending rather than Halifax residential lending.
At least Northern Rock was put out of its misery and is being shrunk down, a pity that Gordon Browns loyalty to Scotland meant that he strong armed Lloyds into taking over the shambles that was HBOS.
However, if people really do believe that the recession was really caused by the USA ('and nothing to do with us Guv') then perhaps Labour can win the next election.
We can then enjoy more years being governed by a scotish dominated party, propped up by MP's from Scotland, who vote mainly on legislation that affects only England and Wales.US housing: it's not a bubble

Now there's a troll thread if ever I saw one.
I'm waiting for the next suggestion to be an English National Party to devolve power from the Scots dominated Union... :rolleyes:0 -

Whisky was invented in China. It must be true 'cos Stephen Fry said so on QI.

If you think its bad now , just wait for snp.I think thats were the crux is , its not a geographical problem but a political party in power one.But rather than admit its labour in fault it makes more (non)sense to blame the scots.
Funny thing is that even though the other countries of the union all have different political parties at the helm of thier "permitted chocolate firegaurds" of home parliaments , they all still share the consensus that breakaway is not "far-away".With the southern based anti scots press and propaganda vitriol it wont come fast enough , for us all.
I agree that as long as scots , welsh , and N.irish vote on english only matters in westminster that simply doesnt affect them its as diabolical as the hundreds of years in the other direction has been.Very few matters on the agenda of the "british parliament" is actually english centric , and why its voted on by all is to prevent a benefit at the expense of the rest of the union. This falacy is mostly used to whip up a frenzy in "certain papers" that cater for a certain mentality.....lets say juxtaxenopobes.
The scots have a same mentality media , just recently it talked about how the oil fields were to be reclassed as in "english" water should independence be "true".But that was decades ago , or was it mr brown? But thats just playing into the hands of the "oil" will make us prosper short termist brigade....I suggest you look up an old episode of "absolutely" on you tube of the "scotsman" for these stereotypes of the other scots that arent "alkies".
I for one think that independence will be both good and bad for all of the uk , depending on your financial stand point. But in times of deep cuts from long recessions then perhaps the annexing of these "leeches of the queens penny" would be the best thing overall.Give N.i back to ireland , would save billions a year.Give wales back assuming theres still someone there that wants it , saves more billions.Build a new wall to keep out the scots....perhaps every scot can donate a breezeblock , if england pays the postage we would all be up for it:rotfl: and lose billions a year.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -

Were the people running AIG when it lost $62bn in 3 months Scottish? How about the Austrian banks loaning 300% of their national GDP to eastern Europe? Many Scots running banks in Ireland or Iceland or the Netherlands? How about City Bank or Lehman or Bear Sterns?
Yet another pointless thread about how its all Brown's fault - this time because he is Scottish. By that logic, then the Scots must be responsible for the global situation - are they?0
