Redundancy and Interest Charges

Having just been made redundant like many other people in the Country and owing money on several different credit cards, I was wondering what are the chances of getting my credit card companies to freeze the interest until I'm back in employment?
Also how long do you think they will agree to freeze them for?
Has anybody else been in a similar situation and what was the outcome?
