Building Regs???

currently in the process of getting quotes for a conservatory, but the company has said due to the fact i want brick walls at the sides (rather than glass) i need to get building regs approval.

they also said i need approval if i want to extend my centreal heating into the conservatory, rather than having storage heaters

is this the case. i thought the too much brick problem, was more planning permission, as it technically makes it an extension rather than a conservatory, and as for extending the heating, ive never heard of that being a problem

any ideas, and if i do have to go for Building regs, how much does it cost?

Regarding the walls, you may require both Planning Permission and Building Regs Approval.

Regarding the Heating, you will need to satisfy the Building Regs with regard to energy consumption.

A starting point can be found at this webpage, and there are further links from that page to explore.
The last section, 'other recommoendations' may help in regard to the heaters.

NB: I can't vouch for and I am not associated with the company who owns the website, but the info is valid.

  • in scotland you require building regs permission if the conservatory is over 8 sq meteres in size .you may need fire resistant side walls depending on the conservatories posision to any adjoining boundaries. i dont know if its the same where you live.

You could check the Governments Building Regs website, not sure which Part you'd require for that, may span over a couple,

  • Easiest thing to do is phone your council and ask for the building regs guy to pop round and have a look and a chat. Offer him a coffee, best to keep them on your side.
