They had a locksmith to break the lock apparently. Its quite horrible knowing that complete strangers have been in your home, but British Gas seem to think that a few people phoning up to say sorry and a bunch of flowers (which I gave to a care home) will make up for it. It bothers me that they could be doing this to an elderly person who doesn't understand that a bill doesn't relate to them. They don't seem to care who they chase for payment of a bill as long as someone does.

    Grrr!

Surely the police have to be present in order for the warrant to be 'served' and forcible entry gained?
I can't believe a locksmith and/or company reps (managers/bailiffs etc) are deemed legally entitled, warrant or not, to enforce this.
Though with the way of the world (esp this country!) in these current times I shouldn't be surprised if I am wrong in that belief.

However BG have now decided to increase my monthly DD from £116 to £200, and have passed my details on to a collection agency.

How on earth can this be?!!

Didn't increasing the DD take in to account any so called 'debt' thus waiving the need for a DCA?

    Shocking!

  • We are having a similar problem, changed suppliers just before christmas 2009 to Eon from british gas, 3 weeks ago received a final bill (just shy of £65) from BG, phoned them up and explained that we have always been on a prepayment meter, as expected told someone would look into it and call us back....... they didnt, however we are receiving up to 5 calls a day from their debt collecting department requesrting the money.

Frankly we are getting totally fed up with it now and feel like they are harrassing us, i know its not a lot of money but its the principle.

Every bill we have received has showed us in credit, again i know this isnt possible and phoned them many times to correct it, just give up in the end.

Basically they call us liars and say that we are not pre-payment?????? if thats the case then i would like someone at BG to tell me where my money every week has been going.

Has anyone got any suggestions how we can resolve this, BG clearly dont want to spend the time looking into this and we are fed up with all these phone calls asking for money that we just dont owe.

    PLEASE HELP
