Throw in there the possible inflationary effects of Quantative and Monetary easing

If wages failed to match inflation (likely with the modern economic structure in the UK), then I would rather be a renter than a new mortgagee, even if the inflationistas turned out to be right. In the 1970s, no, in the 21st Century, yes.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -
Green shoots?
To be honest, I think I've seen a little bit of this, but that's not what I find most encouraging - what I find encouraging is that the phrase "green shoots" is starting to pop up around the place a lot more, both on these boards and in the media.
Call me a cynic, but I firmly believe the best way for the economy to start to recover is for the media to stop going on about the doom and gloom that's around...Really, a quite small proportion of people have been *really* hurt by the recession so far, but there's an awful lot of people saying "not in the current climate" and so on...If we get people to stop being so negative and starting to spend as normal, I'm sure that's half the battle.
Maybe, then, when the media start telling people that the economy's starting to recover, it will actually start happening...0
