new message for recorded on track and trace?

I noticed someone else mentioned this on an existing thread but I've seen a new message now when checking my recorded items .

The one I am looking for at the moment for instance says Item DW52382xxxGB has been accepted at 22 - 24 xx St XXX xxx on 26/02/09. The 'accepted by' address is my local sorting office. So, does that mean that on the day I sent it, the 26th, the locla sorting office added it to a system somewhere but as yet it is undelivered.?

its just that delivery office 'guns' dont really have the facility for that message
an RD could either be out on delivery or undelivered.its the way the OS works

however i guess its possible someone has been using the new PDA's indoors.
the new PDA's are not fully set up for indoor use yet(staged implementation) and shouldnt be used except for 'RM tracked' items
the tracked items are a bit different and im wondering if an RD has been scanned like a tracked item

I received the same message about three or four weeks ago, although my "accepted by" address was the Post Office. I ended up phoning Royal Mail to enquire about this but they couldn't tell me anything.

I'm putting in a claim now for lost mail as it never did get delivered.

that will be the post office you sent from scanning in the RD item
which would be the only scan untill delivery

I've had a few problems with this - seems like a good idea initially as lets customers know their items have gone off (and that we're not just saying they have :)) however a few customers have contacted us after several days saying it was posted on Monday yet today is Friday and its still at your local office (or variations along this line). I explain to them that its on its way and not still at the local office but that the system wont update it again until its out for delivery or delivered etc. Had a fair few customers disbelieve me and be unhappy despite the fact it shows the date I posted it.

Sorry to sound like a moaning minny - it is a good idea in theory however perhaps an update to say its left the local sorting office etc may be better for customers when checking their orders online.

the problem there is RD's travel with all the mail
so you would sort all the mail into their specific duty dropbags/slots
then all of those posties would need to get all of those RD items scanned as on delivery
that would mean more work than that of special delivery given they come in seperatly

I know - and for a small cost item like recorded I can see how its not financially viable to track it fully. Its just that adding this new 'accepted at' feature is causing some problems in itself when a parcel appears not to have moved in days or a week etc. Personally I thought customers would prefer it as it confirms order has been dispatched but as nothing on the royal mail website says it wont be updated again until its out for delivery then it can confuse customers as i've realised since it started. Granted some customers twig for themselves that its not still at the local sorting office but a fair chunk seem to go totally by what the website states. Maybe a note on the tracking page near the information saying that after acceptance at local sorting office or post office the status wont be updated again until out for delivery or delivered? That way at least those unable to work it out logically for themselves would understand that their parcel is not still at my local sorting office :D

now you are getting into the realms of common sense ;)
like the guy who insisted his letter had been stolen
it had been posted the day before(1st class) with £100 in it and hadnt been delivered that day
he said it always arrived next day so it must be stolen.
    there was no telling him
