U.S Embassy Visa Interview! help!

Hi

My boyfriend has got his appointment with the U.S embassy in a couple of weeks as he needs a visa to travel to the USA,

I was just wondering if anyone else out there has been to one of these and if they can give us any advice of info on what the interview actually entails, I have spoken to the embassy and got all the forms sorted and his info pack is in the post but he is a bit worried about what they may ask etc.

he has a criminal conviction for common assault 6 years ago (basically he was in a fight and the people they were fighting turned them into the police) he didnt go to prison but had 80 hours commuinity service.

any ideas if this will cause any massive problems for him?

thanks

It is unlikely that a single conviction 6 years ago, that did not attract a prison sentence, would prevent the issue of a Visa.

However the interviewing officer's main purpose is to satisfy himself that your boyfriend is unlikely to cause any problems in the USA.

You might anticipate that questions would concentrate on his current lifestyle.

Fundamentally, all they're going to need to know is that he's not going to be a drain on resources while he's there. As long as he can prove that he'll have enough money to look after himself and get home then he shouldn't have a problem.

I'm not sure about the conviction bit, but one of the main aims is to prove that you're going to come back afterwards. Proof of money to support yourself whilst you're there (a bank statement etc) and proof that you're going to come back (letter from employer/university/college to say you've got a job/course to come back to, or a plane ticket)
