How important is a Video??

Hi guys,
I wanted a few opinions on what other B2B's or marrieds think about having a video professionally made of the wedding?
Iam in 2 minds about this. I have been doing lots of research and TBH they are expensive for the full day filming.
I found a local one which is much more reasonably priced but I'm not sure if I think the quality of his films warrant the £500+ price tag, althugh I do understand that a lot of work can go into them with the editing and stuff.
Basically I want some opinions on this. Did you have a video of the wedding and thought it was a waste of money? Does anyone regret not having one made?
Any opinions or stories are very much appeciated!

we paid out for a video of our wedding and to be honest, we have watched it once. we did get loads of copies to give to grandparents ect.
i think we paid £400 for ours and he arrived at 1pm to set up and take some stills, we got married at 3pm and he stayed right through to th evening do
hope this helps0 -
TBH I don't think I'd be that fussed about a full video, but I might get someone with a digital camera to take a bit of footage. I figure I might want to see abit when I'm older. My problem is that myself, my OH and our families are pretty camera shy to the point where it might spoil our day to have the camera constantly rolling.0

I was not sure whether to bother, but I have a video of my cousins wedding a few years ago when I was bridesmaid and it is lovely to watch and see peoples characters in a way photos can't always capture. I think it is really down to preference, I agree with roxalana and think that when I have mine in August that what I'll appreciate is watching it in years to come.
I hate cameras but have to admit I didn't really notice the one at my cousins wedding. Mine is coming to my house first (so is our photographer)...he showed me a nice sample film of seeing everyone getting ready an talking and laughing in the morning...I guess those moments are the ones to capture, but not sure what it will actually be like having someone there when we're trying to get ready...!
They are expensive...our is costing I think £900 - our ceremony is at 3pm but he'll come to me in the morning, then go to the groom, then onto the ceremony and will stay till the end at midnight. He also does two version of the video - the full length one (after editing of course) and a short 20 minute 'highlights' for when you don't want to bore people to death!!0 -
Wouldn't be without mine. Got my family on it - lost my mum in 2007, this is the only footage I have of her. Kids love to watch it - sniggering ('did dad really have hair'). Only cost around £90 but this was nearly 20 years ago!
Best bet to get a camcorder and good friend. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

We're having a video... I know I'd love seeing it, I'm always asking to see wedding videos from relatives. As with all major events quite a lot of it can go too quickly in a blur and I want to capture it and keep it forever

We're not having wedding cars and I'm getting my dress from Landy so I think we can justify it.0 -
For the full day, nah, certainly not worth it at all. We intend to have photographs taken throughout the entire day. And we'll probably get the ceremony itself video'ed. But that will just be a matter of getting someone with a video camera and a tripod to do it for free!0

Hi
We for married last year, and a few months before the wedding we realised that we had a bit extra saved and i suggested that we use to pay for a videographer, my OH wasnt that keen but i managed to persuade him, and to be honest its one of the best decisions we made. It captures lots of moments that you miss througout the day, for us it captutured all our guests arriving which we didnt see as i was in the house and groom was inside, it captured my and the girls arriving which he didnt see either. Throughout the day they were around in the background and stayed up until a couple of dances after our first one. WE love watching it, and we got some copies for the relatives too which is a nice gift. hope this helpsIt’s not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts0 -
I was in 2 minds about it as we are on a strict budget but my sister got hers done in 2005 and we watched it back the otther night and she said how lovely it was to see her wedding from other peoples views and also she was so caught up in the day itself that she didn't notice half of what was going on around her so it was nice to see it all.
We've cut back on alot of things so I think we might just splurge on getting a dvd made. Overtime here I come .....!0 -
Thanks so much for all the opinions - keep them coming! I am edging towards having one TBH.
I also think it wuld b nice to see the things that I will miss out on the day such as the groom arriving and the guests - and so many people say that the day goes in blur! It would be lovely to watch it back!
Without wanting to sound morbid, my OH's grandparents will be at the wedding and I think that having footage of them enjoying the day will be a lovely memory of them when god forbid they are no longer with us.
Thanks you so much for taking the time out to give me your thoughts on this!
Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j
