and obviously I know from our chats that you won't throw yourself at him - but that's what he is telling himself what will happen.

Hope I don't sound too harsh because I know I said to go for it as long as you were ready for the ride (and I know from personal experience what a ride a relationship can be so I can't talk!).........but I think it's happened one time too often now and the rapidity of the cycle is getting less and less each time.......

You're right, I wouldn't have thrown myself at him - and I would have said no if he had thrown himself at me too.

I said to him 'I would have settled for a hug and your company' - but he seems to think our 'feelings for each other are too raw' whatever that means.

What it comes down to is that

a) shagging his new gf is more important to him than his 'best friend in the world' (which I would have lived with if he'd been honest because I totally get that new relationships are exciting and you just want to be together all the time), and

b) he really wants to go to the football on Saturday (he alledgedly turned down a ticket to the biggest match of the year because he 'would rather be with me').

So by dropping me, he can have sex, go to the football, and best of all, it's all guilt-free because he can put the blame firmly at my door.
