Gas Transportation Charge

I checked my EDF gas bill today and noticed this:-
"As your home is not directly connected to the national grid pipeline network, your gas charges are subject to an additional daily charge".

On looking I am being charged £9.74 + VAT for the last quarter.. the rub is I am only living 10meters away from my old house where I was not being charged this. I now live in a new housing development , how can I be off the national grid in a main city.

Anyone else experienced this?

The company that built the new development went for a cheaper company than Transco to install the pipes. This means that an extra charge is made to the user i.e. you.

I have the same thing, do a search for IGT on the forum and you will get a list of companies that do not charge. As an example, I am with EBICO for my gas and they do not charge an IGT fee.

Of course they would not necessarily be cheap for you as usage and area will vary the price.

You live on an IPGT site. That is to say,the infrastructure which conveys gas to your house does not belong to National Grid. All properties on your development will be the same and the mains network will have been taken to a common connection point where it finally connects to national Grids network. you have to pay your transporter for conveying your gas from national grids connection point to your meter.

Welcome to the crazy world of liberalised energy markets.

More info on here - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity about 3/4s the way down the page.

However it fails to mention that Ebico don't charge extra for IGT customers.

in case you have any problems with your actual supply (not billing) the IPGT's are considered private networks and do not come under the control of OFGEM!! A friend of mine had trouble changing suppliers due to the network not actioning requests and was told by OFGEM they had no authority!!!
