Am I entitled to some kind of reimbursement?

Hi.

A couple of months ago I transferred my credit card balance to a card which offered 0% on balance transfers for the life of the balance provided that I did not miss a payment.
However, my bank (Abbey) chose to make an payment (which was in error and nothing to do with me), which wiped out my balance completely, a couple of days before the first payment to the credit card should have been made (I had arranged this as a payment via my Abbey account). When I rang them they said that the payment (the unauthorised one) was not actually made, it would be made four days later, as they needed to make the payment in order to see who the payment wqs made to.

This is the second time they have made such payments from my account - the first time they reimbursed the payment pending inquiries. This time they said that they could not do that and I would have to wait a few weeks before it was put back into my account.

I have written two letters neither of which has been answered.

Any advice would welcomed.

Studygirl.

Do you also have a credit card with Abbey and if so have you been in arrears on that card?
    How was this payment made?

No, I don't have an Abbey credit card. The payment was made, by Abbey, directly from my account - as a direct debit would be.
  • A direct debit is called for, the bank does not just send it, a company requests the money. Standing orders is where the bank send money as per customer request.

Yes I know how a direct debit works, I used the term to illustrate how the money was taken from my account by the bank - but without my authorisation.

I have just re-read my original message and don't know if I made it clear that the reimbursement I am referring to is for the interest which I am having to pay on the transferred balance - as my first payment was not sent due to the bank emptying my account.
