Can anyone explain why vinegar is good as a fabric softner - doesn't it smell?

I don't know the answer to that question, but I just don't use fabric softner, or vinegar, and that seems to work fine for us.0

Ive started using vinegar as a fabric softner the past couple of weeks, definatly no smell when it comes out, and ive not noticed a difference between the vinegar and fabric softner (apart from the price and the chemicals!!!!)0

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. But is it anything to do with living in a hard water area?
I use white vinegar to descale my shower head. And anything else that limescales up. Works a treat.0
