Hi Guys
Just wondering if any 'marrieds' didn't write anything about gift in their invites & what the outcome was...
i.e. did any guests turn up with nothing?
a toaster?, Vouchers or Cash?
Thanks in advance

It's against the standard rules of etiquette to talk about gifts in the invitation, although it's considered convenient for the guests. The etiquette-friendly way is to organise a wedding list and make sure that the parents of the bride and groom, best man and bridesmaids all have the information so guests can ask the person they know the best. Alternatively, you can put it on a wedding website if you have one and include information about the website in the invitations (venue, directions, hotel accommodation etc should also be there).
We had it on the website, and ended up with a couple of off-list gifts, a fair number of list gifts, and a slightly smaller number of cheques.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

We didn't put a gift list in with our invitation. A lot of guests asked what we would like as they wanted to buy us something. We received a lot of bottles of fizz, vouchers for Argos and B&Q (which we said we would like if people wanted to get us a gift). We also received other gifts such photo albums and other nice thoughtful personal gifts
No toasters though! ha 0 -

My BIL and now wife specifically asked for no gifts as they felt they already had what they wanted/needed. This unfortunatly resulted in quiet a few gifts of tat from some people who felt they had to get the couple something & it appeared anything was better than nothing.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

We didnt put anything in with our invitations when we got married. If people asked we said we would like B&Q vouchers to do up our house. We got some vouchers but most people gave cash or a bottle of champers.0

Hi
We got married last year and didnt ask for specific gifts, if anyone did ask we said vouchers for Debenhams. We've been together for 12 years so it was difficult to buy anything for us, we did get some presents, picture frames, carving knives which were great but the majority was vouchers which meant we could buy what we needed. We kept them all for the sales and got lots of bargains:jIt’s not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts0 -
We are setting up a justgiving website and if anybody would like to buy us something we are going to ask for people to donate to a charity. We have lived together a long time well about 4yrs we don't need anything and were not getting married to receive gifts xxDFW Nerd #awaiting number - Proud to be dealing with my debts!

We're gonna do a John Lewis gift list, we dont really want anything as we are both goths and have very specific tastes but his half of the family are obsessed with doing what looks good and they think presents will make them look good! Maybe we should ask for HMV vouchers? :PSome people feel the rain...others just get wet0

Hi
We got married last year &put in the invites that we didn't want any gifts as there's only so many toasters and bottles of bubbly you can drink:beer:
It was set into a nice little poem (I forget it now but will post example when I can), however doing this didn't prevent any gifts and most guests still gave us money(went towards a cancer charity in memory of my Grandma) or euros to put towards our honeymoon.:DDebt [STRIKE]£52,656.60[/STRIKE]_pale_£41273.42:)
