Parents bought loads last year and once a month one of them wins 50.00Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0

Have cashed in most of mine. My inlaws pay into them instead of private health insurance, so would use the pot of money to pay for private treatment if needed. Seems a good idea even if returns are not that high at the mo. As you say it is not money wasted.0

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Me and my family have always invested in premium bonds. I have won £700 since 2005 on investment of around £3500.
A relative has the full 30k in premium bonds and wins min £250 each month!!
I have just bought a flight to New Zealand for december costing £1200 using a 0% interest card - interest free for 15 months. I am setting up a min DD (approx £30/mth) and will then have SO for £100 to purchase bonds each month. By time I fly I will have £900 in bonds (plus any potential winnings) and have paid off £300 to card by the DD, which equals the £1200 total cost.
According to Martin's calculator I have 25% chance of winning £50 or 4% of winning £100.
So I think they are worthwhile, especially for short term savings.

I have been buying £50 a month of premium bonds by direct debit and now have £1000. Its taken me 20 months and I have won........................£0 but I forever live in hope so will continue to do so.
My friends remorgaged for £25,000 for an extension. She got the money through around 6 months before she needed it (delay in the planning) she invested it in premuim bonds and every month won £50 here £100 there, till one month she got a biggie, £25,000. Extension paid for!:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
I have 22k. In 2005 I won £200. In 2006 - £500. In 2007 - £750. In 2008 - £650. So far in 2009 £50.
My financial advisor advises to keep them if I can afford to because of the tax free status and because I just might win. It's good to live in hope!0 -
buying premium bonds is gambling with the 'equivalent' interest .. what exactly were you expecting?0

Something on the tv the other night, forget the lottery, premium bonds are the way to go.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0

I have £100 in there on the premise that if I win anything it's a bonus

£100 won't earn a lot in the bank otherwise - that's for sure...0 -
I would like to buy premium bonds (not a lot), where do I get them from and is there a minimum purchase? When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0
