I was in the same position just insured today, used all the price comparison websites
go compare, compare the market and money supermarket!
cheapest were sheila's wheels (who i insured with and) and swift cover, this was me as a second driver to a parent, cheapest just me was swift cover but over £2.5k!

Reehsetin if you are the main user of the car and have insured the car in your parents name you may have problems if you need to make a claim. If you have not advised the Insurers that you are the main user and that you commute to work / or college (If this is applicable) then your parents may be "Fronting" for you. Do a search of google or MSE for "Fronting" to find out what it is and the possible problems it may cause.

The following link will take you a thread where the policy holder is having problems as he insured his car in his step fathers name. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1520121

It is important that when anyone takes out an insurance policy that they do not mislead the Insurer as this can cause problems if you have a claim. If you are not the main user and the parent who has insured the car is the main user you will probably not have a problem but be aware that teh policy may not cover you to commute to and from work or college

when i passed my test my examiner gave me a dvla leaflet of insurance companies that specialised in insuring brand new drivers and they were all cheaper, try asking your instructor if he has access to such a thing, it saved me over £1000 from comparison sites!

If there is more than one car in the family, try looking at the companies who give multi-car discounts. We are with Admiral, and it has saved us a lot of money. Also, with Admiral, when we put both OH and I on DS's car, as named drivers, it brought the cost down.
