I am looking for a knife sharpener, can anyone recommend anything for me. I have read that you should only use a steel once the knives are sharp. You cant use them to sharpen knives a stone is best for this?

You can get knife racks/stands with a built in sharpener that will effortlessly maintain an edge. In terms of using a stone you can buy whetstones for knife sharpening from good hardware or camping stores.
Also the carbon edge of a car window is incredibly tough and good for sharpening a knife which surprised me when i saw it on Saturday kitchen!0
