Sink will not drain....

...due to the plug hole mechanism not working.

It's one of these modern type things with a release rod, I actually wish I had a plug on a chain. :o

Any ideas folks? The rod goes up and down as normal but the plug doesn't budge. It seems to have come undone at some point but access isn't the best to investagte?

Thx in advance.

if its a cheap one look under the sink just above the u bend, you might see where the rod goes from the tap unit to a lever in the pipe that would raise or lower the plug, possibly attatched (or now not) with a metal c shaped clasp, manually move this to see if you can get the plug up, otherwise you could try a plastic knife or spatula type non scratching implement to lever the plug out if your sure its no longer attached. Mine is off and I cant get it to reconnect to the lever so to plug the sink i have to use it upside down with the rear stem of the plub right in the middle of the sink :(

there are only a few good ones out there, mfi type have a short life span.

it sounds like you have lost the screw that is attached to the plug, this is a threaded screw with a nut to sceure it. sometimes it comes loose and drops into the trap.
  • What you need to do to ge tthe plug out is take of the u bend or p trap which attacthed to the underside of the plughole then with a finger or screwdriver push the plug up. Remember if the sink or bath is still full of water it will start to come out once the plug is out but the trap will not be connected so im sure you can guess what yourself where the water will go
