Replacing a gas heater with a wood burning stove

We are buying a Victorian mid-terrace that needs a lot of work of doing. In the lounge is currently an old gas heater, but we would like to remove this and open up the fireplace to have a woodburning stove installed.

However we are not sure how to approach this. Would we get a gas engineer to disconnect the heater first, and get someone to sort out the fireplace prior to fitting the stove. Or are there stove specialists that do the whole process?

Any help would be appreciated as this is our first house and we would like us much advice as possible.

Good evening: Get a RGI in to disconnect and remove the gas fire (and service your boiler if you have one;)). You can find a qualified solid fuel installer here ...you might find someone with gas and solid fuel qualifications down here in Kent.

Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
