Is there a reason why you/others dont let their cat out at night?

We have our first cat she is now 9 months old but she comes and goes as she pleases at night time.

Must be a hassle to keep letting in and out, and isnt night time when they hunt?

Cats are more lively and nosey at night. They are a danger to themselves and motorists after dark. All cats should be kept in after twilight.

Totally agree with them being in at night, but thats just me being a worry guts!

Dibs tends to have a mad moment when I go to bed but as soon as I switch my light off he settles down to sleep.

I have a covered porch area at the back so I will probably put his cat carrier out there with a blanket over it as a safe place for him to go.

Are they the rules?;) or just your opinion. I wonder what is best for the cat.

My opinion. I do not have any problems with other people on how they treat their cats. It is up to them.

    Hi all,

I have a 6 month old male kitten who was neutered on Friday. I know he will want to go outside soon but I am wary as I don't have a cat flap. I am starting work tomorrow (p/t) and am concerned that if I do let him out in the near future that he won't be home by the time I need to go out.

I have a porch area by my back door and had thought about making a cosy covered box for him to go in if needs be, but I would really prefer him to be in the house when I go out.

Has anyone had problems like this before, if so what did you do?

Is there any particular reason why you think he'll want to go outside? He's not used to it, probably doesn't understand the notion of "outside". Indoors he'll be 100% safe from cars, foxes, running off, being taken in by neighbours, bites from other cats, rat poison put down by neighbours etc etc.

I've had cats killed on the roads - once on a quiet country road with hardly any traffic, and previously on a suburban road with speed bumps all along. It's hell to find your cat dead like that, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Obviously it's up to you, but perhaps you could give the indoor option a go especially since he's known no different.

When I got Dibley I wanted him to be a house cat, but he sits at the window watching the birds and making those strange sounds that cats make when they want to be out there, he has also made a dash for the back door a few times and often hangs around it as I come in - not in a greeting way more of a 'whats out there that I can explore' type.

Also, when the warmer weather comes I am the type to have both the back door and patio doors open all the time when I am in, so that will be the time I think when he would go out and explore.

The Cat Kabin looks good! But may be a little large for where it would need to go, but thank you anyway.

Hope your kitty comes back soon photome!!

I have a full grown cat who comes and goes... But doesn't stray far, usually goes out one door, runs round the back and comes in another... But also 2 kittens, 1 female... Neutered.. and 1 Tom, as yet un neutered... But since he just started getting his urges (10 months old) he'll be whipped in and they'll be whipped out soon... But now we're coming to the point of letting the little ones out... And I'm so nervous about it... I don't even know where to start!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
