How do I find out who owns a house?

Near me there's a rundown, uninhabited, 1 bedroomed, terraced property. I want to find out who owns it without having to ask the neighbours. How can I do this? I've searched on the web, but no results.

Thanks in advance!
Don't blame me, it was like that when I got here!

I think the Land Registry - they have a website or you can phone them. It's £2 for a property search online but they don;t always have the details if it hasn;t been sold recently.

Best to call them and see what they advise

  • Im not sure if this is correct but if you log onto the land registry website, you can buy the land document of the house your after (assuming you know the house number/post code) for £2, it includes name of owner etc.

Why dont you want to ask the neighbours? Going to try to claim it for yourself in 'the name of the neighbourhood' of course?
A bargain is only a bargain if you would have brought it anyway!

That's what I said, but I think sometimes they don;t have all the details. As I also said. Sometimes I think my posts are invisible!

  • The Land Registry website is the place to go, as previously stated by others (http://www.landreg.gov.uk/). If it's unregistered you'll have more trouble and it may be impossible, but you might be able to get some info by doing a Land Charges searches. Post again if you need info on this.

I'll try the land registry, but the house hasn't been sold in many years, so they might not have the info. At least they give you your money back if they can't help.
