sorry i do live with my parents

that girl was only an example. what i was tryin 2 say is that she is using her grants to go on holiday.

another one someone came out with is - i cant wait till my bursery comes through. i need a new phone?

    !!!!!!?

for who everasked.. i am single (well long term relationship but not living together) an no dependants. and yes i do live iwth my parents. but i dont not ask them for money, fair enough.. free roof over my head. but thats not the point im making.

the majority of these ppl in uni also live at home

do you live at home all teh time? if so then youve got it a lot better than most.

me and my fella are going on a proper cheapo holiday in may. ive been too ill to trust hotels for the last two years, my holiday is a reward for getting well enough to be able to travel, use a public loo, sleep in a bed others have made etc. im gonna be treated to all my meals and days out there but im paying my half of teh flights and hotel- do you object to this?

  • my comment did not refer to current students, sorry if it was ambiguous - I meant friends who graduated multiple years ago and have full time, well paid jobs, who get free food and board - contributing nothing! i'm on a student stipend and entirely self-sufficient..... so you can see why it gets on my nerves a little!

my point was that there will always be someone who seems to be getting an easy ride, no matter what you're doing (studying, working etc), and dwelling on it won't improve anything!

i agree i hate that- how can they have an self respect? earning a full-time wage or salary but still living with mummy and daddy in one room of the house?!

its one's own choice how you spend money. afterall the student loan is given in cash, not in book tokens.

considering you live at homewithout paying rent Jersy, why are you complaining? surely your costs are minimal compared to me, a london student parent, who has to pay for childcare, a travelcard (120a month) as well as rent, bills, food etc. on top of the small costs you probably have such as books etc. i think it is pointless judging some woman on your course on the surface for having a little more than you. they probably spend less on booze and more on holidays to spend time with thier child who they are seperated from a lot.

yes i had a friend who had everything paid for by her parents. they paid rent, food, tuition everything. and she still took out her loan as spending money. its a personal choice what you spend the money on, its ultimately a loan and therefore your money to spend as you like.

i find that people who get everything also end up with teh most debt. my oh befre we were together was already at uni and his mum paid for his accomodation and every time she came up or he went home his washing was done and he was given a crate of food but he still ended up with a huge overdraft and credit card bills. ive gotten him on teh moneysaver path now! but his debts arent yet paid off (and i mean just teh od and cc) three years later.

when i was in first year full-time (before i got ill and my rents disowned me) i live with them in summer but in halls durinf term time. i paid my own hall fees and was never given any back-handers or food by my rents but i still never got overdrawn and didnt have to work in teh summer or christmas to survive.

Jersey - how do you know she is using her grant to go on holiday?

She might have saved the money from before University and spent it using that.

You've got to remember that seeing as you live with your parents, your living costs are heavily reduced. You don't have to buy food or pay rent, your parents provide that, hence why your loan is less.

I get £4195 a year for my loan, but it's no way near enough for my living.

I find it frustrating too. My parents can't afford to pay my fees - yet due to the means test they're expected to! My parents have !!!! £100 cars, can barely afford a holiday and work every hour under the sun.. yet according to some silly means testing system they earn too much?! I don't understand. So I pay all my fees and accomodation etc out of my loan and what I earn - I had to have 2 jobs over the summer and still work one of them..
