Car Insurance - Changes now that I'm 25

My current car insurance policy runs from 20th Dec 2008 to 19th Dec 2009. On 22nd Feb 2009, I turned 25.

I'm aware that there is an additional excess to pay if the driver is between 21 and 24 - now that I'm 25, does this mean that I won't have to pay that excess if I had to make a claim now, or does it last for the whole period of the policy as I took it out whilst I was 24?

Also, my policy doesn't include driving other cars cover as it's only available to drivers over 25. Do I automatically get this now? (I know it would be third party only).

Policy is with HSBC via Kwik-Fit.

Should I give them a call to check or am I barking up the wrong tree and it would be a pointless call?

Many thanks.

It's probably worth a call - although I doubt they'll be open at this time of night.

Your excess should be lower if you were to have a claim after your 25th birthday - although I suspect driving other cars won't be available until you next renew, if it's available at all.

Driving others cars probably won't be available until you until you renew, this was the case for me when I turned 25 midway through a policy.

    Hi elle

As poppy says - doesn't make any difference until you renew your policy.

I turned 25 mid way thru my policy and when I rang them to see if the policy would reduce they said no. As I am trying to build up my No claims, I carried on paying the £67 per month. Up for renewal this month and have had quotes back at £33 per month with only change being my age.
