Please can someone advise me? I bought a pair of trainers, which I now want to return. They are still in box etc,not worn(only bought them two days ago) I have the receipt. The shop says it has a policy of exchange or a credit note. I want my £40 refunded. where do I stand please?

You are only entitled to a refund if faulty.
Anything else is down to a goodwill gesture from the store, many sports shops only offer exchanges or credit notes.0 -
Welcome to MSE,
I'm afraid the shop is right you are not entitled to a refund for the goods and the shop does not even have to give you a credit note.
You are only entitled to a full refund if the goods are faulty in some way. This could be a damaged eyelet on the trainers, the sole coming off or even a difference in the dye on the trainers such as a run in it.
Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994 will give you more information if it helps.
Sorry if this is not what you want to hear, you could always sell them on via https://www.gumtree.com or even ebay to recoup some of your cash.0 -

You can't have it. You have no redress under law whatsoever.
Unless you bought them online (or over the phone, or other not in person method) then you have 7 days to return them.0 -
Why do you want to return them?0

if the sign in the shop is not clear, and the sales person didn't mention you can't get a refund, and you haven't worn them, all labels etc are still there, then i reckon you have a loophole.
Basically, you can say the above, and try it, say that you bought um for someone else, as a present maybe? and noone told you. Ask to speak to the manager, and with any luck you'll be heard
The above is tried and tested....

There's no loophole.. you could ask..but then they've already turned the OP down.0

ask the manager but only hope , they don't have to, sport shops are like this , i once asked about a refund they said no so did'nt buy item .only swap or credit note , they are right , only refund if faulty as stated above , best to swap for something else it given credit note shop might close down tomorrowthe truth is out there ... on these pages !!0
