I have looked at a few insurance companys and the best i could find was 24/7 insurance but is there any cheaper? I want to do bungee jumping, white water rafting etc so need some sort of extreme sports cover,

Try Trailfinders i know they do a good around the world insurance policy. I used it when i went traveling and they are quick to pay up if you should need it! It also covers adventurous activities! Although i did do a quick quote on their website and its quite expensive (£415) but that dose include your extreme activities, but you never put in your quotes so i don't know if its cheaper or not!

I would also imagine that STA would do a similar kind of insurance as both companies specialize in long trips. (had a look think it works out at £475 with extreme sports)

    Hope that might help!

If you use the tools on this site (particularly the link to the Moneysupermarket checker) you will find many insurance policies that are cheaper. However, they may not offer the level of cover that you require. I went through this process yesterday, and because I need cover for a reasonable amount of cash, I ended up buying the 24/7 policy. For me, it offered best value for money but was not the cheapest.

Note about claims: I need to claim on their policy just after Christmas, when my flight was cancelled. I tried to telephone them to confirm that they would meet the cost of a completely new flight with an alternative carrier (Ryanair, my airline, offered an alternative flight the next day) but since this was a Saturday no-one was at work who could tell me.

Anyway, I lost a day of my holiday and took the Ryanair option. 24/7 then took about a month to deal with my claim: they paid the hotel bill for my enforced night's stay, but nothing for food during the 24-hour wait (the policy wording said "accommodation" but a reasonable person would assume that this meant food).

All in all, I think they get five out of ten, but I doubt if many insurers would do much better.
