help !! cant find a driver

my son has a toshiba m100 portege laptop, it had a virus had to be reformated and is running win xp and service pack 3.
the network controller (for wireless) needs a driver and we cant find it....
we have done a trial of driver detective and this find sthe file missing but to get the file i need to pay $29.99, is there any way of getting this driver for free !!!!
i dont know what card is inside the laptop etc..

OK download SIW run a scan and it should tell you all the hardware on the computer. Once you've done that post the name of the card.
Also if you go into the device manager under the network adapters is there anything with a red cross on it?
no not a red cross, just the network controller as the yellow exclamation mark as no driver installed !!
i will try siw tomorrow as i have to connect the laptop up via ethernet cable as the wireless wont work till i find the driver, will post results tomorrow0 -
Right thats fine right click on it and go to properties and uninstall it reboot and windows should pick it up and install it properly, try to be connected to the internet via a wired connection.0

worried coz when iclick to uninstall it warns me i am removing it from computer... what if windows does not detect it when i re-boot0 -
Dont worry it will cos its still connected, they'll be a little box saying its detected new hardware when you reboot, then it should install the drivers for it.0

been on the toshiba site and there are lan drivers to download for the portege m100 would they be what i need ??0

They might be but until you're sure exactly what network adapter you have installing them could be bad for your computer. Bookmark the page and find out what network adapter you have.0
