Completion - daft questions

According to my solicitors we exchanged yesterday and will be completing next wednesday. (At last!) I've been told all I need to do is wait for a call to collect the keys from the estate agents.
Could someone tell me how the changeover of utilities is handled then? I was rather expecting to have to go to the house with the EA to agree to the readings sent to the suppliers.
Is there anything else that happens on completion day? (we won't be moving in for 3 weeks or so)

Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

as soon as I had the keys after completion and walked through the front door, I rang the utility companies straight away with readings (likewise as soon as you are ready to depart your current property ring with final readings). That way they will ensure you are billed from your new property on the date and time you move in. Hope this makes sense

by the way, all that will happen on completion day is that you'll receive a telephone call (from your EA) to confirm that all monies have transferred then you're free to go. It's a horrible feeling though. I remember when we last moved, we just sat on the floor in an empty house (all our furniture was loaded) waiting for that call.0 -
you will just get the call saying to collect keys. Hopfully sooner rather than later, i got my keys at 4pm! that was a busy afternoon/evening!
When i moved in i had letters from all of the billing companys saying "new owner" etc as the previoud owner had informed the companys the place was empty.
If you dont get that, then find out the company used before and let them know the final figures and also a address for the previous owners. You dont want THERE bill to come through.0 -
One important point - don't hand the keys over to the new owner until your solicitor has told you that the money has arrived in their account. Better still, leave the keys with the agent once you're packed up and ready to go, they won't release them to the new owner until the seller's lawyer tells them that the money's arrived0
