i've always been allergic to dogs and when i got my first i had the itching and rashes. i bought a big tub of E45 cream and just kept rubbing it on to sooth the itching, within a couple of weeks i was fine.0

hmm there is some stuff for putting on the dog which is supposed to help... not tried it myself as I am not allergic, but may be worth researching...

A few years ago my skin got really bad, really itchy and marked where I kept scratching and my doctor also said I was allergic to animals......at that point I had 3 dogs, 3 cats and 2 horses....and had always lived with animals.
I asked the doctor why i was suddenly allergic (after 30+ years) and he said that my immune system was overloaded and starting to react to all sorts ( I was also diagnosed with rheumatism shortly before which is also an immune type disease)
I was prescribed really strong anti histimines ( 250mg) and a skin cream and flixonase which dealt with flare ups - I also banned animals from the bedroom and changed to hard floors downstairs .
I now only take OTC antih's, only loratine ones work for me and only groom the animals outside, that type of thing.....it can be managed.0 -
people are allergic to animal's dander (skin) and saliva mainly, so things like brushing them and allowing their mouth to touch you will create a reaction. when i met my boyfriend he was really really allergic to cats, we now have seven cats and he is not allergic at all.
it's been a long process beating the allergy but here's some of the things we did.
- we got a product called Petal Cleanse (a quick google search showed it's still available). basically you put a load of this liquid onto a cloth and rub it through the animal's coat once a week, we used to do this outside so when the coat was being rubbed and releasing dander it was out of the house
- changed the pillow case for him everyday and kept the cats out the bedroom
- we hoovered, but only when we had to. hoovers work by beating the floor to lift the dirt and it doing so it lifts the dander into the air
- leaving the windows open in rooms of the house when we were in as often as possible to keep clean air coming in
- brushing the cats outside
- on top of this my boyfriend took anti-histimines (sorry bad spelling) and often went for a quick walk round the block before bed to clear his lungs to get a good nights sleep
thankfully for us, nine years later, he's no longer allergic to any of the cats. i hope some/any of this works for you0 -
Would definately agree with Bronnie to try different types of antihistamines, just ask for the generic versions of common OTC brands at your pharmacy as they will be much cheaper than buying Piriton, Zirtek, Clarytin, Benadryl etc but do the same job.0

Benadryl is the one I have found effective (so haven't tried any others), However I understand this has the newest active ingredient than any on the market and at present this active ingredient is not available in generic form.0

I am allergic to my dog. I had always had a dog but only when I went to Uni and came back for holidays did I notice a problem. For a couple of months I had really itchy eyes but getting used to his fur really helped build up a tolerance.
Boots do "natural" antihistamine New Era I thibk they are called, really help and help with pollen in the summer.
Also I dson't hoover as much as I should (once a week - I work full time and I'm not prepared to spend what amounts to around less than 3 hours a day spare time cleaning!) I actually think it helps. I leave dust alone it leaves me alone. When I vacum it raises the hair and dust in to the air and then I sneeze for england.
Good luck
