How full is your hard drive?
When was the last time you defragmented your hard drive?
When was the last time you ran a registry scan?

I havent done any of these, laptop was bought for christmas (reconditioned) and it worked brilliant then. How do I do the above??

I eliminate the software porblems first as its the easiest step , just go to Control panle , then add/remove programs and uninstall the list I posted

we can do the "housekeeping" afterwards if need be

I take it thats bad news. I was wondering if more memory might have done the trick.

I am still waiting for the list to populate on Add/Remove programmes and will take off AVG etc then.

Ouch do all the last two.

To find out how full the hard drive is click on my computer and right click on the C drive go to properties and you should see a pie chart which tells you how full the HD is.

Download Defragler to defrag the Harddrive and download Easy Cleaner to do the registry scan.

OK thats good not over full which will slow a computer down. Try the registry scan and once thats done do the defrag which depending on how bad it is will take a long time.
