IVA help and advice please?

Hello,

About 18 months ago I was going through the processes of starting an IVA. I had debts up to my eyeballs. My debts are astronomical, especially considering I have little to show for it. At present, I do not have a list of my debts to hand, but will get a credit report to list them.

As the IVA process was starting to come together, my partner became very very ill, and as a result came out of work. I had to leave shift work and go on regular days, and the income substantially reduced. The health of my family is more important to me than any debt, so going onto regular days was a no-brainier for me.

Since then, I have recieved some CCJs and know I still have some outstanding debts. Other debts have been passed on to collection agencies, and I have heard nothing since.

I want a better life for my wife-to-be and our children, so would like some information on an IVA.

1) The wife has debts herself, and I would like to combine the two lots of debts together, but would the IVA company accept the benefits of the missus as an income?
2) Since some of the debts have become CCJs, will I be able to combine these into the IVA too? I don't want to be paying £40 a month on a £14k debt for the next 60+ years.
3) Can an IVA combine the debts that a collection agency like Phoenix have undertaken as I have been told they are Bailiffs?

Also, who would you reccommend to handle the IVA? Who has the best record and, do they have differing rates? I need to pay the least I can while clearing my debts, but I also need to have an IVA company that are good and will handle everything professionally. We want to move from the house we are in, but debt is in our way and making things so much harder.

Please help me.

Thanks in advance,

Gaz

  • Gazniccki you need to be bringing in enough to cover the costs of an IVA. I personally would advise you to make an appointment with one of the debt charities who will be able to advise you of the best way forward. There are a great bunch of people on these boards who will help you when you ask.
    Welcome and goodluck

I would also recommend you read through alot of the posts on here to make up your mind who is the best IP to go with if you do go down that road.

Go onto CCCS website and do their Debt Remedy on-line...you can view the results on-line too.

I have an IVA with them I would recommend talking to them or National Debt Helpline or Payplan.

Thank you for that info skibadee. Like the originally thread starter GazNicki I had contemplated entering into an IVA, and had even went as far as to get an application pack from 1 company. However after stumbling onto this site through google after searching for the address of one of my creditors, I realised just how much this IVA provider would be making from myself. I have just finished the online remedy provided by the CCCS that skibadee referred to and now will probably enter a Debt Managment Plan that they are sending out.
