Thailand In Xmas

Can anyone advise if it's cheaper to get flights/package holiday nearer the time or should I just try and book up now. Not everyone can provide prices. So far £2688.10 for flights only for 2ad and 2ch! If anyone has any advice on getting good prices or places to stay, doing package or booking flights and hotel separately that would be greatly appreciated!

Children will be 11 and 8 when travelling. Aiming to go 19 Dec for 14nights, staying in Phuket. My parents and their friends are going and have been several times so we are just all going to chill over xmas basically. Just really wanted to know the best time to book0

Super-peak season flights won't get any cheaper. Not many ways around it.
