Blocked Drain/Pipes?

Hello! :heartsmil
We have a problem with a blocked sunk, so we poured soda crystals into it and that didnt work. We then unscrewed the ubend and the other pipe under the sink, cleaned them out but it is still blocked.
Parents reckon it is the pipe outside that is blocked and have spoken to the local plumbing merchant who said it would be £30 for a new pipe if they do it themself, and £150 for a plumber to fix as it will be a 3 hour job.
So before having to spend the money on this has anyone got any ideas? I'm going to buy a plunger as they are always handy. Would a drain rod work?

If you are carefull and read the instructions on the packet properly Caustic soda might be the answer.
The blockage is probaply fat from cooking utensils that have been washed in the sink.
---As long as you are carefull --I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Before you go down the road of buying drain rods or calling someone out, try boiling water. fill a bucket then pour it down the plughole keeping it a steady amount going down. Be careful not to burn yourself in doing so. it may be that it is a build up of fat and the boiling water would melt this and break it up. If this method works then keep pouring hot water down the sink for at least 10 minutes to ensure it is clear.0

try everything you can first to unblock it. It cost me £240 to have my drain unblocked!! It was a build up of fat and grease and clogged up washing powder - even though i dont pour anything down the sink!
we tried rods and a springy thing from B&Q and some really strong drain unblocker but unfortunately nothing worked. We dont actually have a man hole in our garden which didnt help - if you have a man hole cover - lift and look at it from that way & make sure u use the rods from that way too.
How old is the house or have you any work being done - is it likely that the pipe needs replacing, be sure as you may be forking out money for something that you dont need doing.0 -
