quote for boiler including scaffolding!

I thought I had asked for a service care annual check up but instead got a man from the gas who wanted to quote me for a new boiler (and was not trained to do service checks) I allowed him to do the quote anyway which was a staggering £4300 mainly because he had added on costs for scaffolding which he claims is essential because the floor has to be removed and the houses are timber built (15 yrs ago) the structure is partly dependent on the floor!!! he told me a silly story about a house that collapsed when a the floor was disturbed in a town nearby - I am certain this is nonsense as we have chipboard tiles on the joists and nothing more elaborate - has anyone else heard this type of stuff? I will be complaining to the supplier shortly. Thanks

  • Good afternoon: Interesting sales strategy:eek: The OH started installing central heating systems in Surrey during the late 70s and can't recall such an incident. What reason did the salesperson give you for replacing your boiler? What boiler do you have?

sounds like a Britsh Gas "engineer" they are just geared to selling, telling tales dangerous installations, obsolete boilers, and a lot of other nonsense just to get money from you, £4300 for a job probably worth £1500. regards bri
  • canucklehead not sure what boiler we have but it came with the house and is capable of switching to emersion/electric as well as running our GCH it has been fine for 15 years and I don't want to replace it but BG salesman said the parts are 'becoming obsolete' - I am not too worried - the last person I would ask now would be them if I needed a replacement.
