refund of holiday deposit

Booked a holiday for my family 2 weeks ago, holiday in June. Had to cancel today as have been made redundant and financial future looks uncertain. I asked if it would be possible to return to return my deposit due to my circumstances, but was told if I had cancelled earlier they could have, seeing as i only booked 2weeksago how early is early.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Did you take out any insurance? If you did, you could check to see if redundancy is covered and make a claim.

If you didn't take out any insurance, I think it is highly unlikely that you'll get your deposit back.

You could try appealing to the Travel Agent or Tour Operator that you booked thru as occasionally they will waive the terms and conditions (but usually for the most exceptional circumstances).

Check the "terms and conditions" which you would have agreed to at the time of booking as that will explain your obligations.

A cooling off period, which is typically how one cancels easily, is if they came to your house and you signed up, or if you did it over the phone or online.

How did you make the booking?
    What actual date?
    What does your paperwork say?

I expect it will come down to trying to claim on your holiday insurance.
