Southern Electric
I got my six monthly gas and electricity bills yesterday from Southern Electric. I was in a fixed price plan for the first three months and then just on the standard online tariff for the last three months.
I must say I was very pleased that Southern have never put up my monthly direct debit, so of course I knew that I would owe them quite a lot of money.
However, I was very pleasantly surprised - for electricity I owed them £4.75 and gas £171.50 (was anticipating gas to be a lot higher).
Phoned their customer services to clear the outstanding balance and the lady asked me if I would like to increase the monthly direct debit, as obviously it was now insufficient to cover the cost. I said that I would prefer to keep it at the same level (£57 per month for gas and £41 for electricity) if that was OK with them and then settle the outstanding amount with a one off direct debit payment when I receive the bills.
I was expecting her to insist that it was put up, but she said that is absolutely fine and they are quite happy with that arrangement.
I must say that Southern Electric do have first class customer service, I have always got through to them quickly and their staff and always very polite and efficient.
If only they would drop the prices by 30% they would be perfect:D
