my hubbie has been off work the last two months due to stress and depression as a result of a nightmare year for us. His work contract is due to finish next week and his boss told him they were looking for funding to extend it. Now had a phone call, not from his boss but one of the agencies that funds his wage to say that there's no funding left - due to the way they started paying him when he started work - so the wage we were expecting on monday is not coming. we haven't been able to contact his boss yet 'cps he's on holiday until next week. we've no other income, i'm at uni and have recently had back surgery so i'm not fit to work but got a letter this am to say my appeal for dsa failed and i can't get it. we've two kids to feed, mortgage and other bills to pay and absolutley no money at all. obviously we'll apply for benefits but how long will it take as like I say we were expecting his wage in monday and the cupboards are bare, and is there anything else we can, except cry ?? i'll be extremley grateful of any help xx

Sorry don't have any advice but didn't want to read and run. You may be best posting this on the benefits board rather than here.
Do you have any family who could help out short term?0 -
thanks for your reply, i'll pop it on the other board. we've no-one to help out short term, my hubbies family are on low income and i've only got my 89 year old grandad left who's in a nursing home so we're stuck!0

Hi,
Perhaps you would be entitled to a Social Fund payment like a Crisis Loan or a Discretionary payment. I'm sorry, don't know the ins and outs but I have had a crisis loan before - had to prove I didn't have any money in the bank by providing a statement/mini-statement. Don't hold your breath, they gave me £24.00 (I've got no dependents though) to last till my benefits (Job Seekers Allowance) came through in 3-6 weeks.
Good luck. This time will pass.Thank you to all who contribute to all of this super site:smileyhea !

hi maybe not much help but if you can get a list of things in your cupboard and fridge/freezer and pop in on the old style moneysaving board they can help with making a menu for the week with what you have in the house ,
put in an appeal for your dla and get someone to help with the forms quick contact cab and see if there is any way they can help with what benefits you may be entitled to get hubby to phone the job centre first thing tomorrow to make an appointment to see if he can claim anything0 -
Sorry to hear your news.
You might want to give your mortgage lender a phone as well to explain the circumstances and to see if they can offer you any advice.
As tattoedB says, have a look at the Old Style section of the forum for advice on making your money go further with food etc.0 -

HI, just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your help and advice. when you can't think clearly and stressing it's a great help to have others pointing you in the right direction. My hubbie spoke to his ex-boss today who's know claiming that any outstanding pay is nothing to do with him as the money to fund the job comes from a number of different sources. He's been on the phone all day to the social who have been fantastically helpful! we've put claims in for all sorts of benefits which is already being dealt with and we've been able to get a crisis loan so we can at east buy food until the benefits are sorted. things aren't as bleak as yesterday, just another long day tomorrow ringing mortgage lender and cab etc,
once again thanks everyone for your help and support xxxx0 -
Really sorry to hear of your plight. Do you have items you could sell on Ebay? May bring in some funds or do a carboot sale at the weekend? Me and my friend, both single with kids, go to the supermarket at the end of the day and get reduced food, allsorts of stuff at cheap prices. We are the Queens of Mean.
My husband left me for another woman and so now I have had to give up my house and come back here to my folks. Life can be tough but it does get better. Have faith and say a little prayer........it helps!0
