Best Gents watch

Options
I have been saving my Tesco vouchers and it is my son's 16th soon. I was saving to buy him a Rolex at Goldsmiths, but they have stopped selling them. Now I know that Tag Heuer are good, too, but I am not sure about them. What is the best/ coolest watch around at the moment?

    A price range would help.
Also , guessing you are thinking a mechanical watch , rather than a good battery one.

Tag Heuer are good, but your comment
quote.... coolest watch around at the moment?
    Not so good!
    You are looking long term.

My Brietling ( 18th birthday ) died last year, but I am well over fifty!
  • Brietling are good when they work properly but can be unreliable (my ex-boss loved them and had quite a few :)).

If your son wants something cool and unusual, have a look at Citizen's Eco Drive range. They're attractive watches and run off solar power (watch face acts as a solar panel), so no batteries! The higher end ones run off moonlight and artificial light as well as sunlight and when fully charged you can stick it in a drawer for 3 years and when you pull it out, it'll still be working :D.

Seiko also do "kinetic" watches, but they're more expensive and more likely to break down.

As a general rule, anything with a swiss movement as opposed to a Japanese movement will be superior...I'm just generalizing here, though :)
  • I would vote Tag Heuer. I have had mine for for 15yrs & only had one battery change, still looks like new.

Of course you really CANT buy him a watch , you can only pay for one, it
must be his choice, hopefully one that he will wear for years.
  • Tag is still cool, don't worry about that.. but yes - he should choose a watch himself
  • Tag are cool - my best friend's OH insists on Tag and he is into his designer suits etc, always the best. Also, don't forget that you are talking about a watch that will last years so probably no good going for fashion alone. Fashion is fleeting but quality is for the long haul.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • Omega Seamaster Automatic.

As previouly said - its a very personal choice. And this is mine!
  • Omega is THE cool brand.
Well if Bond wears it and Bourne, it must be.

On a serious note, omegas really are nice watches, but to be honest I would say they are for men, not boys, same with rolex.
Tags are very good watches and would be a great choice

Take him shopping and let him pick his own.
Best to see what fits best and looks best on his wrist. Just because a watch has a great name and looks good in the window, does not mean that it will suit your son.
Always best to try it before you but it with watches.
    All hail the Moyesiah.

I wouldn't buy a Rolex for someone of that age, what if he lost it or broke it, you would both be very upset!

Tag Heuer watches are very cool and you can get one from about £200 upwards... They are always 'in fashion' and are a younger brand of watch... I have an Armani watch that is formal, a Seiko chronograph that I bought when I was 16 (and its still great 13 years later!) and for about the last 2 years I've had a Tag Aquaracer :)
