i had an item for sale on gumtree- with photos, sizes full description.
1st potential buyer came, but then 'realised' it would be too big...
no other takers, so i redid ad with slightly lower price- 2nd viewer came, same again?!
can't / don't people read??

I agree with Dan. Also maybe there was another reason they didn't want your item but didn't want to offend you? Maybe in the cold hard light of day the item wasn't so appealing so they just claimed it was too big.0

I agree. Maybe they just didn't want it and didn't want to hurt your feelings. It's not unreasonable to go and view something before you buy, is it?0

being on gumtree wasnt the problem- just the people that took up my time and theirs by not reading the ad- surely people would have an idea (and/or measured) the space they have available for any large item, before following it up?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

So why menton Gumtree at all?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Sometimes,it is a technique of would -be buyers to look at the item and say they don't want it-you lose confidence and drop the price etc etc..
Watch how dealers do it at a Car Boot sale..or try to sell a desirable car and you will get multiple people (actually one interested party)ringing you up to ask you specifics that are allready in the ad,then tell you it's not what they are looking for..It's designed to wear you down .0
