I stand corrected! Obviously the stats boffins managed to get hold of very localised crime figures.

Anyway - 13,000 isn't bad. Would help if we knew where it was though - you might get advice from people who know the area.

Good point... the area in question is Black Dam, in Basingstoke. Any feedback from anyone with knowledge of the area is appreciated!

Not sure whether you are worried about the specific area, or Basingstoke itself.

Have only been to Basingstoke once. Seems a nice enough town.

Don't know Black Dam at all. However from looking at the stats
it's - don't know how to put this in a non-snobby way - one of the more
"working class" areas of the town. 33% of the houses are "social rented"
compared to 17% in Basingstoke as a whole. There are areas
which are "worse" though - and the area round the station is around 4,000
    on the crime index!

I'm sure any residents will soon be rushing to the area's defence!

And in any case - I lived in an area in Bootle near Liverpool with a crime league
    position of 6,000 - and I survived!

Exil, thank you for the info. Where did you find it? I did not see it on the Neighbourhood statistics website but maybe I wasn't thorough enough. I'm not too bothered about living in a working class area - the vast majority of working class people are totally decent respectful people. I am more bothered about the possible crime aspect. I guess I could call the local police station and ask - LOL!

I'll reserve judgement until I've had a second look at the area. Thanks so much for your help.

Basically I just looked elsewhere on the site. There are stats from the 2001 census there, including all sorts of things such as ethnic mix, unemployment, social class etc etc.

Crime is generally associated with lower income areas, difficult to
deny that. Hate myself for saying it but....
