in Credit cards
Hi, I applied for 2 cards a couple of weeks ago. Got accepted for HSBC but declined for Mint. Had to call them a few times as they are really slow. Anyway, each time they said my details had JUST been entered onto the system and they would make a decision. Clearly this was not the case, as I was again told this tonight, seems a standard answer. Anyway, has anyone successfully appealed their decison and got anywhere?
Ive already got a tesco card that I am closing (£0 balance) but this is RBOS as well, and a BOS card that I asked on application to transfer balance to mint card that I also intent to close. I thought Id apply for 2 cards at a time to get both searches out the way and knew I might not get either. The HSBC card seems best with no fee for BT, but Ive read about their low credit limits and hope I dont get one or it may be a waste of time too.
Thanks
J

Mint can be appealed, with a letter and 3 months bank statements (plus details of savings, investments, & property equity - if you have any).
However, I suspect the reason for the decline is your Tesco card. Perhaps best to get it closed pronto, before the appeal 'window' closes?
Have you asked them WHY you were declined? They won't be specific (if it's their credit scoring systems), but at least they should 'point you in the right direction'.0 -
Tescos & Mint are the same company, that may well have been the reason.MoneyBox savings £30.37 (10/05/06)
Now at................£54.50(07/06/06)

I have recently applied for a MINT credit card and they have been so slow! I applied for an Alliance and Leicester current account online last week and received the paperwork in 2 days. Its been 3 weeks since I applied for MINT and still no card / balance transfer! I had to speak to 3 different people to chase the paperwork.
Hope it gets better than this.0 -
Quick question - is it a good idea to apply for a Mint card if you've already got one from NatWest?0

I would think not. I have an RBS card and was told I can't apply for a Mint card until the RBS card was closed and I waited 9 months in between.
As Natwest and RBS are the same group - I would think the same applies.

Even on appeal I thought the Mint limit was very low so maybe no great loss
The Miont cheques come in handy though0 -
Ive sent my appeal letter off yesterday, but still have the tesco card. The way it's worked out as well I actually increased my tesco limit last week as the application for mint was taking so long, incase I had to transfer my balance from my BOS card. Tesco were offering me 7.9% APR for life of balance, which was better than the 11.9% on my One card. Should have left it alone though until they had made decisions.

Called them again today after hearing nothing, they said they were still reviewing the decision, but had sent me a letter yesterday asking for 3 months bank statements which I feel is quite extreme, and not sure if I will bother sending them. Seems a bit humiliating to be honest, bank statements are private things as far as Im concerned. Anyway, they said having a tesco card would not affect the decision in any way, as RBS are happy to let me have two cards. I asked if it was even worth bothering sending in bank statements as I will not be happy to go to all that hassle for nothing, but obviously they cant say for sure. Wish I hadn't applied to mint now!0

Well it worked, 2 letters, a good few weeks later and account is open. Had to send bank statements and I sent a savings statement they never asked for, so account open now
Show's it does work to write nice letters respectfully but firmly giving them reasons to help customers
