The Best Way To Get To Newcastle?

I need some advice on what is the best way to get to Newcastle from Glasgow, and any links to train/bus/air websites.
Im travelling down on the 11 May 2006 to watch the Alan Shearer Testimonial against the mighty Celtic.
I was thinking of staying in a travel inn once we get down there, but again if anyone with more experience of the area has any other ideas that would be great.
Thanks

Get the bus through to Edinburgh (Mega bus, mega cheap), cross the road to Waverly and get the train which is 90 minutes. Or get the train from Glasgow if money is not a problem
Looked on GNER website, for tickets, and remember 2 singles could well be cheaper than a return !
Longer you leave it for train tickets, more expensive they will be.****************************0 -

Nice to see someone coming down for the match. Unfortunately I'll be somewhere over the Atlantic and not able to go and see our local here. Wonder if I can persuade BA to show it??
No direct air links I'm afraid so it will either be the train or driving.
It's a Thursday night so you will be better going for a Travel Lodge type of place unless you want to pay mid week prices. Although the Gateshead/Newcastle Hilton was offering rooms for only £85 B&B the other week. No hotels right near to the ground.
What would you be doing afterwards going for a few drinks on the Quayside? There are a few travel type places there and its not too far to walk to the train station the next morning. I really wouldnt bother with a taxi as you will be travelling light etc.
PM if you need any details about St James or anything like that - be warned if you are in away fans section you will be seating very high up and joking aside a pair of binoculars might be in order. Level 7 of the Sir john Hall side is not for those with vertigo and is also up many a flight of stairs.0 -

Thanks for the advice.
I dont hink I will have to worry about the seating arranements, I had a season ticket at Celtic Park in the North Stand, right at the back row, i've seen pictures of St James and it looks like a silimar stadium design.
Nevertheless cheers for the advice, you never know I might end up in with the locals.
Absolutely no idea what we will be doing after the game, but will more than likely be steaming at that point so the Quayside sounds a good idea.
Thanks Again0 -
Nearly closed the deal.
Went through GNER from Waverly, so thanks for the advice.
Now all I need to do is get my hands on tickets for the game.
Any contacts would be great.
I'll try the Celtic ticket offices0 -
