I can only please one person a day.... Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either!!
very greatful for almost everything i read on MSE (except for the nasties!)
  • I have only ever posted 2 or 3 comps, but just got a pm from an mser who won from the Womens Aid comp I posted recently, saying thanks. It has really made me smile. Next time I win I may well not only name the OP in IWIW, but pm them too. Does anyone else do that? And would you like to receive a pm or would you not be bothered?

I don't always PM but I do name the OP in IWIW. Did PM Korky last week to say thanks for the big comp I won recently as well as post it on IWIW.

It doesn't really worry me whether people thank me by PM, IWIW or not - although it is nice when people take the trouble and does put a smile on my face that although I didn't win it one of my MSE friends did.

Come on Cathy - what is it.......:D

    Geckos! Does anyone have any?

Me! Well, I used to. What type of geckos are you getting? I kept Leopard Geckos ... soo beautiful :) they eat crickets and i used to catch them in my garden in the summer and buy Them from the pet shop in the winter, at the time even my local pet super store had them, now it tends to be smaller independent ones. Happy crickets taste better and are fatter ... I kept mine in their own plastic tank ... Just a cheap small thing, no more than £5 and fed them fish food and lettuce and maybe a bit of brown bread!

As long as there is proper ventilation to the fishtank and enough space to run around in it should be fine for your geckos. People use wood chip or sand on the bottom, I preferred sand, provide some nice rocks to bask on and places to hide, those fake plants are always good as they can climb on them too and hide inside if they are looking for shade.

Treat them the same as you would any other pet, give them time and space to acclimatise as the journey probably would have been a little traumatic, possibly keep the vivarium covered for the first day then half covered the next then fully uncovered on the third.

Leopard geckos have a beak rather than teeth, I have never ever been nipped, they aren't built to fight, they are built for flight as they drop their tails if they are under attack. Don't worry this is very unlikely unless you grab them by their tails. pick them up from behind their front legs and place them on your palm.

Lastly geckos sense heat from the tops of their heads ... So if your using heat rocks or pads rather than a lamp make sure it is working properly, if it malfunctions and overheats it can be dangerous as it is technically possibly for a gecko (and a lot of other lizards and amphibians) too burnt themselves with out even knowing it. For that reason I've used lamps but its so rare that a heat rock would get that hot.

Wow looong post ... Hope that helps Melvis! x
