PPPoE vs PPPoA, BT broadband etc

My BT broadband connection failed tonight. So, after a lot of messing around line testing etc via their helpline I randomly tried changing the settings from PPPoE to PPPoA and then it suddenly worked. Seems odd - it's been working for months on PPPoE connection. What's the difference?

over ATM? ain't that American for a cash card machine?

Mmmmm, Automated Teller Machine.

Hi,

ADSL in this country works using PPPoA. It will not work with PPPoE at all.

BT uses an ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) network, not an Ethernet network.

Your connection would not work on the PPPoE setting.

I'm BT Boardband.. I have alwasy used PPPoA (if that's of any help!! - i doubt it though!)
