I applied online and had no problems, guess I was one of the lucky ones.

Presumably you are an existing Barclays customer. This was my first taste of Barclays (yuk!) so I had to go into the branch to open the account.

About a week ago I received a letter telling me they received a complaint from me and will get back to me by 28th March. I'm hoping by then they can finally confirm the account I have opened is a 6% Monthly Saver. Although I could imagine this will drag on for months as it is apparently rather tricky for them to tell me exactly which account I have opened with them.

I was thinking about getting a Barclays 3.61% ISA, but given my experience with them so far, I'm going to look elsewhere.

It's beginning to sound like Barclays are the British Gas of banks.
  • Sorry to hear you had this problem. And it is actually quite easy to fix. Barclays would have opened the monthly saver but an "admin" error has caused the wrong letter to be sent out.
I suggest a new letter is sent out confirming you have a monthly saver?Geezo ....would you be happy with that? I would hardly say you have been hard done by on this occasion.
  • Has anyone received a statement/confirmation letter for the above account. I have been paying in by standard order since March and haven't received any paperwork. Scary!

I applied on the phone. And got a confirmation letter in a couple of days. But I applied previous one at the branch, I didn't get anything. Just the advisor told me on the phone (due to system down when I was there) about the account number.

You can check your balance online or go to the branch to check for it.
  • I've had nothing either - I got a piece of paper with the account details on when I opened it, but nothing through the post (opened account at the beginning of June).

We just go into the local branch and ask for an entries report, this way we can keep an eye open that everything's as it should be and that our standing orders are getting through. Gives us a piece of paper with the total on which we keep on file.

That's all I ever got. I recently went into my local branch and now Barclays send me monthly statements
  • i opened a braclays reg monthly saver few months back and had no problems at all even though i dont have an account with them, this compared to the hassle i had to go through with Abbey made me close that account down!

Well checked my online a few days ago and for the last 3 months I have had it open and deposited in the maximum £250pcm I have earned about £3 interest each month

Could have been the date the money entered the account (left mine around 27th and entered the monthly saver on the 1st it seems). If this is the case then I'm annoyed at myself.
