Leaving a tenancy early

My girlfriend was recently made redundant and we're really struggling to stay where we are right now. We've lived here for 8 months ish and signed a 12 month contract. However with the way things are right now and the fact she has been made redundant there's no way we can stay where we are and we are looking to end the tenancy asap.
Has anyone had any experience in doing this? Best way to go about it? Any advice. Cheers.

Talk to the landlord. Tell them you are willing to move at 2 (?) weeks notice and are happy to have viewings at any time. Ensure that the place is spic and span. Point out to the LL that you'll be gone in 4 months anyway, and this is a chance for them to get a new tenant in with no gap. see how they respond.0
