Gas price plummet - but not for you!!

Totally pointless trying to compare country to country price ,the tax situation
and the subsidies (paid for by the tax payer/bill payer) given by the government are not taken into consideration.
Couldn't agree more; and your(valid) points give reasons for the distortion in prices.
However, whatever the reasons for that distortion, the fact remains that UK does 'enjoy' some of the cheapest prices in Europe. Yet we still get loads of posts claiming that Europeans pay less, when generally they pay more.0 -
You don't - switch elsewhere or don't buy the product. You'd not be complimenting them if they got it right.1carminestocky wrote: »Your Managing Director was firmly of that opinion just a few months ago. How incredibly embarrassing for him. Err, why should BG and the others getting it wrong mean we all have to pay?

No, I'm a person. I have stated many times on here that I post in my own time for no personal benefit. My words are my own, not those of British Gas or Centrica, but it's not as easy to make attention grabing claims if you need to stick to the truth, is it?1carminestocky wrote: »You are a private company,

Reflects well on the company, I think.
I never claimed that the utilities should be subbed by the governemnt (as has happened with banks & cars), and if you look carefully you'll see no hint of that it my posts. However, the state has helped out the banks, so what is your point?.1carminestocky wrote: »not a state-funded dept and surely must succeed or fail on your skills. For instance, cardew has admitted to holding bank shares for quite a while. He obviously believed they would appreciate in value. They've clearly done the exact opposite. Does his stockbroker have to pay for his 'mistake'?
Does your point mean that if the utilities were nationalised and the same mistake was made you would expect the sub from the taxpayer not the prices to increase?
1cs - your vitriol towards the utility industry and BG in particular always suprises me - you seem to be able to offer sane and useful advice at times, but at others only seem intent on deflecting the conversation away from infomration that can help and into a circular and pointless argument. Our prices should be a lot lower considering we have had 3 decades of North Sea oil. France has no gas fields hence why they took the nuclear power option. The eastern Europeans were for many years subsidised by the Soviet Union/Russia. This has been gradually removed.
While prices will eventually rise once the North Sea is depleted we haven't reached that point yet and in fact have long term agreements with Norway who have far from exhausted their share of the North Sea gas fields.
So all in all it doesn't matter how the energy companies and their defenders spin it we are being screwed.0
