Winter fuel allowance payment after death.

Just had a surprising letter from DWP today sending condolences for my mother's death (in October), but saying that as she was alive during the qualifying week of 15 - 21 September 2008, she was entitled to her winter fuel allowance and they will be sending me cheque for £400.
Had no idea this would happen, so it could be something you should watch out for.

Perhaps the payment is for both your father and mother, since it's double the normal single person's allowance of £200.0

You usually only get one payment per household; maybe it is to do with age?
