A 'Wee' Problem

I need a few ideas on this one. Starting to get desperate now!!
My 3 year old has over the last 4 or 5 months suddenly decided to wee pretty much where ever she feels like it. I'm not sure whether she's just so engrossed in whatever else she's doing at the time that she forgets. Or if she's being lazy or attention seeking.
I've tried ignoring it, and, praising her when she does use the loo or potty. I've tried reminding her and popping her on the potty or loo every couple of hours or so. Star charts you name it we've done it. Somedays she's absolutley fine others she's not. I have no idea what else I can do. And I don't want this to turn into a 'big issue'. But it's getting harder and harder and I'm fed up of cleaning carpets and stacks of washing etc. And it is starting to become a 'big issue' for me now.
She's done it at her nanny's on her nannys bed and sofa. At home she does it pretty much anywhere.
I'm sure she knows she's doing it. She's a bright, intelligent, happy child. Dry at night and has been for about 6 months plus. There's been no major up heavals or problems that might have affected her that I am aware of or can think of.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Oh TAG I really feel for you. There's nothing worse than trying to stay calm about things like this.
What does your daughter do when she has done it, what is her reaction?I haven't got one!0 -
Has there been any major upheavals (sp?) in her life recently like a parent going back to work, a relationship break up, house move or new playgroup?
It sounds a bit like attention seeking. It's definately a phase which will pass (just as another annoying phase is about to start usually) but the more fuss you make about it the worse it will get.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
I just had a thought. Does she poo OK or is that a problem too? If she does it shows you she is capable of doing it in the right place and it is just attention seeking.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

You must be at the end of your tether x I was just wondering if it might be worth a trip to see your doctor or practice nurse just to rule out any water infections?
Try to keep your spirits up - you wont believe me now, but there will be an end to this - then you will be like me and have teenagers with a whole new set of problems :silenced::rotfl:0 -
To be honest, she's quite likely to have a uti - especially in a girl of her age where they don't wipe as they should do. On top of this, it could be possible she's after some attention.topmum wrote:You must be at the end of your tether x I was just wondering if it might be worth a trip to see your doctor or practice nurse just to rule out any water infections?

Definately Dr's and perhaps not so much fussing around her when she does it. Try it for a few days and see what happens.
hope this helps

i would seek advice from the doctor and confirmation of any bladder infections....in the mean while could you convince her into nappies again...suggest to her if that would help and see if she thinks that is a good idea? Maybe she will agree with you or maybe that would be enough for her to get her act together...does she go to nursery? does she have accidents there? i shouldnt worry too much really but on a practical issue i would just go and get some pull ups and dont let it be an issue to either of you..and when shes dry again get her some really pretty knickers as a reward! Aww bless!0

A trip to the docs would be recommended too - just in case!
Have you tried just ignoring it? Just clear the mess up and change her clothes, but don't say anything good or bad. Just treat like you would a normal routine chore like washing the dishes!
I found with mine that totally ignoring attention seeking behaviour soon stopped it as they didn't get the reaction they wanted. If it is attention seeking, this might help cure it.Here I go again on my own....0 -
My eldest (a boy) used to do exactly the same and we never got to the bottom of it. It only stopped when we re-decorated the room, changing the carpet and moving the furniture about so he couldn't get into 'his corner' anymore.
What about a couple more pottys about the place, one upstairs and one downstairs.0 -
Thanks for the replies everyone.
Today has been ok with only 2 'accidents'. After reading what you've all said I think that it probably is just a phase and a bit of attention seeking. Will keep an eye over the next few days and see what happens.
And yes she does do a poo in the right place all the time. Thankfully. Don't know what I'd do if I had that problem to.
Anyway cheers everyone. Ideas and thoughts appreciated.0 -
