Sainsbury's Card, OK if unemployed?

Options
I'm currently between jobs (so to speak!) and want to have the Sainsbury's card as it sounds like a useful thing to have, even though I have no plans to use it at the moment. Is it worth applying if I'm unemployed and do I have to tell them that? Also I know the USwitch site says there are no fees, but being a newbie to this can someone clarify that if it sits in my wallet doing nothing for 6 months it's not going to cost me anything? And there's nothing to stop me jumping to another card or closing the account with nothing to pay?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Something else I should have added, what should I put in the Gross Annual Income box on the signup form? An annual total of Jobseekers Allowance? I have been a student 12 months previous to July, so haven't had any real earnings for some time. Sorry for all the questions!

  • I doubt you'll have much luck anywhere if you're unemployed. You can even apply for the Capital One guaranteed acceptance card if you're not working I think. You might be able to get a card from the company you bank with already if you've got a good history with them, but otherwise it's unlikely.

    Gross earnings in the box.

And don't sign up to payment protection :)

It depends on your credit history, length and quality as well as your earnings. But as pointed out, its going to be tough getting a card where your gross is so low.
  • Adding the total of what the state pays you to sit on your backside is a great thing.

Is there any common sense here? Unemployed and you want to borrow money?

Someone needs to learn how money works, and fast.
  • To be honest no i wouldn't, even if you get one its going to be so low as you dont really have a method of repayment.
Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....
  • Thanks for your comments, to be honest I can't imagine what caused me to think so optimistically at the time! I'll stick to the freebies board in the meantime ;)

Can we be very careful with comments like this. You have no knowledge of the circumstances of the poster and are making assumptions based on the fact they are unemployed. They could have been made so for any number of reasons, and are entitled to apply for the same offers as anyone else.

Acceptance is, of course, at the discretion of the company in question, but they have every right to ask for help regarding their application.
  • In spite of advice this poster has the ability to keep bouncing back.
