other uses for a leaky water butt?
two of our plastic water butts have sprung a leak - not sure where abouts the leak is. They both have a tap at the bottom.
Thought about using them to plant potatos in but before i launch headlong into hoiking great amounts of compost about, thought i would ask if anyone has any better suggestions for a new lease of life for our old (water) butts .

If you can identify the leak, maybe PVA glue seal them, best done in situ once dry.
Otherwise similar thing here but metal, 3ft x 2ft x2ft made it into a compost container after slicing off the unmendable bottom.0 -
Use them to cover rhubarb...0

Sounds like a design flaw if both have sprung a leak - I would post on the greenfingered money saving board too. Possibly contact the company as well.

If you can find the leak use Plumbers Mate. No idea where its from but a friend (who is a farmers wife) says she uses it for everything that needs to be able to cope with wet surfaces. She once mended my windscreen wipers (socket bit) with a plug of it. I was told a needed a whole new w.w outfit as socket/ball thing at bottom no longer fitted snugly and so when in use they fell off (this was going to be £70. I tried all sorts to stick them in place - almost impossible as area was often wet and w.w's had to move. Plumbers mate kept them going for 2 years (until the car died). Hope that helps0

I'll move this over to the greenfingers board where you should get some more help
