Halifax

  • I have an arranged overdraft of £1200.
  • This month I had a lot of necessary spending so went up to within £30 of the overdraft. This was on the 18th and there are only 28 days in the month. I get paid on the 27th.
  • Because I was so close I never used my account once between the 18th feb and the end of the month.
  • I forgot that my house service charge comes out near the end of the month, even though I have been asking them to take it at the beginning of the month since the year dot. This came in first.
  • I completely forgot my camelot direct debit, as I never ever win anything.
  • So we are two days before I get paid and I find out that these two direct debits have come in - the larger one first, followed by one for £8
  • So I am now about £25 over my arranged overdraft.
  • If the direct debits had come in the other way round, then the first would have been £8 and would not have mattered.
  • I receive three charges.
    • Unauthorised overdraft fee - £28
    • Paid item charge - £35
    • Paid item charge - £35
  • Halifax are taking £98 off me because I went over my overdraft for around four or five days by £25. If the direct debits had come in the other way round they would have taken £63 off me for going £17 over.
Not the same bank, but I still have the obscene £13,000 per week for life pension ringing in my ears.

Please help -What can I do?

sorry but it is not really the fault of Halifax that you went overdrawn by forgetting direct debits that were due to come out, even if you had asked them to be changed to a different date. changing the date is not something the Halifax can do. Neither is it upto them which Direct Debit gets presented first, they only apply the charges in the order in which things happen on your account.

All you can do is call Halifax and ask them if they will consider a charge refund as a goodwill gesture.

And the RBS pension is nothing to do with HBOS so don't quite see how that applies?

  • I had the same issue with Halifax I went £2.00 odds above my arranges overdraft and they charged me similar charges!!

I called and give off stink on the phone but nothing they can do, they said!!

My Bank Charge recliam is waiting at the min!!

If you have a bank charge recliam letter in you can write to them and add this on but they might not pay it as I was advised worth a try though??
